About
Great Beginnings has been providing quality care and education to children and families on the Monterey Peninsula for almost 20 years. Andrea Scott, the owner and director, opened a small family childcare business out of her Pacific Grove home in 1998. She converted a studio off the back of the house into “The Preschool Room” and provided preschool and day care for up to six children at a time. In 2003 a new house rental presented itself and Andrea moved with her family to Monterey and opened a large family daycare out of her home. She was able to hire an assistant and care for a larger group of 12 children at a time.
In 2007, an opportunity presented itself once again, when a partially furnished preschool space became available at St. Timothy’s Church in Monterey. Andrea closed her home-based preschool and childcare business and opened Great Beginnings Early Learning Center on May 1st, 2007.
Andrea wanted to preserve those aspects of family child care that she found most beneficial to the children in her care. For example, continuing to provide an opportunity to grow and learn within a group of children of various ages. It was important to her that the new school maintained the homelike feel and the close relationships built with families.
"The environment at Great Beginnings is very creative and nurturing. I genuinely feel that the staff members care about teaching little ones and take pride in what they do."
